WHAT TO EXPECT

Whether you’re new to Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, or Massage Therapy, we’ve got you covered.

Scheduling Appointments

Patients are welcome to call our front desk to schedule appointments.
For your convenience, we offer easy online booking for all treatments.

Please note: Because we schedule multiple patients at a time, it may appear that your Acupuncture appointment is only 20-40 minutes long. Your treatment will actually be about 75 minutes if you are a First Time Acupuncture patient, and closer to 60 minutes if you are a Return Acupuncture Patient. Every treatment includes a private intake with your practitioner, and the remaining time is spent resting in treatment.

Tips to Prepare for Treatment

ACUPUNCTURE PATIENTS

  • Wear: Loose-fitting clothing that allows you to relax during treatment. We may need access to your knees, elbows, or shoulders, and clothing we can roll up to access these areas is appreciated. You are welcome to bring a change of clothes, or we have pieces available to loan if you forget.

  • Prepare: Make sure you’ve had a bit to eat; don’t be starving or stuffed, and cut back on caffeine in the hours before receiving acupuncture. Though rare, too much caffeine, or too much/not enough food in your system may leave you feeling a bit woozy after treatment. This reaction is rare, however, if you do experience this feeling after treatment, alert our staff, have a seat, and we will have you relax with a bit of tea or water, or a small snack, until the feeling passes.

  • Check in: Upon arriving, check in with the front desk, fill out paperwork if you have not completed New Patient paperwork via the online link sent to your email, and get settled for treatment. This is a great time to take off your shoes and silence your cell phone.

  • Consultation: You will meet with your acupuncturist for a private consultation to discuss your health history, concerns, goals, and growth opportunities. Upon leaving the intake room, you will bring your personal belongings into the community treatment room. In order to preserve a relaxing atmosphere for patients in treatment, we practice a policy of speaking in whisper tones in the community areas and hallways of the clinic

  • Store your belongings in a basket, roll up your pant legs and shirtsleeves to just above the elbows and knees and lie down on your treatment table. We have whatever you require to be comfortable: pillows, blankets, bolsters, eye pillows. Please let your acupuncturist know if you need any adjustments to be comfortable during treatment.
  • Treatment: Treatment is generally 45-60 minutes but please be sure to let us know if you need to be up earlier or prefer a shorter treatment time. If you prefer a longer treatment, we suggest booking our “Return Acupuncture with Bodywork” option, which will add 20 extra minutes to your appointment, with time for focused cupping or gua sha, or you may ask your acupuncturist to simply allow you more time to relax.  Anytime you need something, simply open your eyes or say excuse me out loud and an acupuncturist will check on you to make sure you are comfortable.

  • After Treatment: Acupuncture is most effective when utilized as a course of treatment. Your practitioner will provide you with a recommended plan for treatment, which will include when to return for follow up treatments, herbal medicine, Qi Gong exercises, or bodywork recommendations to complement your acupuncture treatments.

  • Results: When starting a course of Acupuncture treatment, consistency is key! Time and again our most successful patients are those who follow our treatment recommendations. Acupuncture is very personalized, and we can take many approaches to treatment. If at any point things are not progressing as you hope, let’s discuss treatment options.

MASSAGE THERAPY PATIENTS

  • Prepare: Make sure to hydrate and have a light snack prior to your massage appointment. Massage therapy increases circulation in your body, quickly moving whatever is in your system at the time of treatment. Having low blood sugar or dehydration while receiving massage may leave you feeling woozy or dizzy afterwards.
In order to preserve a relaxing atmosphere for patients in treatment, we practice a policy of speaking in whisper tones in the community treatment areas and hallways of the clinic.

  • Consultation: Each massage treatment will begin with an intake with your massage therapist, where you will discuss your health history, concerns, goals, and changes since your previous bodywork treatment. This is your opportunity to ask questions, communicate your preferences, goals, and expectations. Many aspects of massage are customizable, and we intentionally bring practitioners with different styles and training onto our professional team. Feel free to share your pressure preference, if you’d like to incorporate cupping or hot stones, or if you have a specific request for your treatment..

  • Treatment: Your practitioner will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the treatment table. Some folks prefer to undress to their undergarments, while others prefer to have nothing between themselves and the sheets. However you are comfortable under the massage sheets is just fine with us. We adhere to professional draping standards, which ensure your body is never exposed during treatment and only the area being worked on is uncovered. A good rule of thumb is; if you’d like an area of your body to be massaged, give your LMT access to it! We work hard to create a quiet atmosphere while in treatment, however, we encourage communication with your practitioner if you need any adjustments made to the massage table or techniques during your time in treatment. You are always welcome to communicate with your practitioner!

  • After Treatment: Your massage therapist will check in with you afterwards to discuss how you’re feeling, what they found and/or resolved, suggestions for maintenance until your follow up appointment, and a recommended treatment plan to meet your goals and maintain balance in your body. Be sure to hydrate and be kind to your body for the rest of the day. It is normal to feel a bit sore in the 24-48 hours after receiving massage. If you are feeling a little “beat up” in the days after your appointment, Epson salt, CBD bath bombs, or mineral baths will help soothe sore muscles, continue hydrating, and do some light stretching to allow your muscles to continue to release.

  • Results: Whether you are addressing chronic pain or injury, or are looking to maintain long term balance, consistency is key! Good Medicine offers a discounted Massage Membership program to keep your consistent care affordable.
